Zusammenfassung: Die Animationsfilme der Weimarer Republik genießen aufgrund ihrer künstlerischen Experimente bis heute Weltruf. Unter dem Motto »Film als Kunst« (Rudolf Arnheim) entwickelten Walter Ruttmann, Viking Eggeling, Hans Richter, Rudolf Pfenninger und andere den sogenannten »Absoluten Film« – abstrakte Animationsfilme, die im Zusammenhang mit der gegenstandslosen Kunst entstanden. Die Innova­tionen beschränkten sich jedoch nicht nur auf die visuelle Ebene, sondern schlugen sich auch deutlich im Umgang mit Musik und Ton nieder.

Auch die Silhouettenfilme einer Lotte Reiniger haben den Animationsfilm der Weima­rer Zeit maßgeblich geprägt und eine zeitlose Ästhetik geschaffen. In ihren Filmen hat sie ein eigenes unterhaltsames, kulturgeschichtliches Universum geschaffen.

Zwar ist Berthold Bartoschs Film L’IDÉE in Frankreich produziert worden, doch wur­zeln seine künstlerischen Konzepte in der deutschen Arbeiterbewegung, für die er un­ter kongenialer Mithilfe des Musikers Arthur Honegger eine einzigartige audiovisuelle Sprache entwickelt hat. ANIMIERTE AVANTGARDE umfasst eine Auswahl von High­lights und Raritäten aus dieser Blütezeit des deutschen Films.

That could have very likely had been the end of the story, if the power of the images had not pushed him to fall in love with photography. John confides that his photo hobby quickly motivated him to set up a darkroom and devote large amounts of time shooting. As he learned more about photography, he recognized that those negatives he had bought, then stored, were the work of a real master. In an attempt to confirm his suspicion, he selected about 100 images and put them online with the hope that the feedback would confirm his judgement as to the strength of the images.

As he works on his book, Capote feels some compassion for Perry which in part prompts him to help the prisoners to some degree. However, that feeling deeply conflicts with his need for closure for his book which only an execution can provide. That conflict and the mixed motives for both interviewer and subject make for a troubling experience that would produce an literary account that would redefine modern non-fiction.
